MANCHESTER — Fernando Hernandez worked six superb innings, and the Fisher Cats played small ball and long ball to defeat the Binghamton Mets, 5-2, in front of 6,579 fans at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium Thursday night.

John Tolisano delivered the key blow with a three-run homer in the fourth inning, and Hernandez stayed in firm control while allowing one run (unearned) on four hits, all singles.

Veteran big leaguer Yorvit Torrealba, signed by the Blue Jays to add some much-needed depth at catcher, went 1-for-4 in his New Hampshire debut. The 34-year-old provided a lift for the Fisher Cats (50-74) but wasn’t involved in the explosive fourth inning. Jake Marisnick singled and stole second to spark the rally, and Brad Glenn laced a double to center field. Ryan Goins reached with a bunt single, and Tolisano connected on his 10th homer of the season.

Binghamton starter Greg Peavey (6-8) allowed five runs on seven hits, including a solo homer by Sean Ochinko in the seventh. Hernandez (4-6) fanned eight Mets and walked three on a 96-pitch night. Sam Dyson earned his seventh save by working a perfect ninth. Marisnick went 2-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases.

3 millionth fan
Before the game, the Fisher Cats surprised Milford resident Brian Hutcheons as the 3 millionth fan in franchise history.

Hutcheons and his family took home a plethora of gifts, including four season tickets for 2013. The fans were recognized on the field during pregame, and Hutcheons tossed the ceremonial first pitch.

The family also watched the rest of the game in a luxury suite.
