Unusual object skyward tied to wedding party

EPPING — It all sounded out of this world.

Epping Police Officer Jonathan Swift was on patrol around 10:30 p.m. last Saturday when he spotted a vehicle pulled over on Hedding Road and several people were standing, looking up at the sky.

When he asked what was happening, they told Swift that moments earlier they saw a strange object in the sky with lights.

“They informed me the object had approximately 20 small flashing lights and was able to move and hover through the sky in a way they’ve never seen,” Swift reported in his police log entry of the incident.

The sighting could have an explanation. Brent Loy’s son, Reed, and his wife, Linden, were married Saturday and about 30 biodegradable lantern-type objects with a flame inside were launched into the sky around 10:30 p.m. at the end of their wedding reception on Hedding Road.

It hasn’t been confirmed that the suspicious object seen by the motorists was related to the wedding reception, but at this point it’s the only explanation for the unusual event.

“They went up and they followed the air stream, so they were all moving in the same direction,” Brent Loy said Wednesday.

Loy was unaware of the possible UFO sighting until he was contacted by the New Hampshire Union Leader. He said he thought some people might wonder about the sight in the sky. They resembled stars floating around in the sky, he said.

“It was quite a spectacle, actually,” he said.
