EXETER – A kitchen was damaged by fire Tuesday morning after an electric stove burner was left on and ignited mail and other materials, fire officials said.
Firefighters responded to the two-story house at 15 South St. at 10:12 a.m. after residents reported a fire in the first-floor kitchen.
The residents and their pets evacuated the residence before firefighters arrived and found smoke showing from the rear windows, fire officials said.
The stovetop, microwave oven and kitchen cabinets were damaged by the fire. The counter and other appliances sustained smoke and water damage while minor smoke damage was reported to the rest of the first and second floors, officials said.
The fire was brought under control by 10:27 a.m. and firefighters wrapped up just after 11 a.m.
