Freddy Meyer is coming home.

Manchester Monarchs general manager Ron Hextall named the Sanbornville native the club’s assistant coach Tuesday.

Meyer, 31, is a veteran of 418 NHL and AHL games during a nine-year professional career from 2003-2012. The defenseman played in 281 career NHL games for the Philadelphia Flyers, the New York Islanders, the Phoenix Coyotes, and the Atlanta Thrashers, compiling 20 goals and 53 assists. In 137 career AHL games with the Philadelphia Phantoms and the San Antonio Rampage, Meyer registered 23 goals and 28 assists. During the 2011-2012 season, Meyer scored three goals and notched nine assists in 31 games for Modo Hockey of the Swedish Elite League.

Meyer, who now lives in Winchester, Mass., replaced Scott Pellerin, who was with the team since 2006. He was also a member of the 2005 Calder Cup winning Phantoms team that included current Los Angeles Kings forwards Mike Richards and Jeff Carter behind the coaching of current Kings assistant coach John Stevens.

A 2003 graduate of Boston University, Meyer was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team in 2000, was an NCAA East First Team All-America selection and a Hockey East First All-Star Team member in 2003.

He signed his first professional contract as an undrafted free agent with the Flyers in 2003.
