MANCHESTER — Lefty Sean Nolin earned his first win at Double-A and gave the Blue Jays a glimpse of the future in a 6-1 triumph over the Sea Dogs Thursday night.
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats starter went six innings, allowing one run on two hits, in the final home game of the season at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Nolin (1-0), called up from Advanced-A Dunedin this month, sizzled in his third start for New Hampshire.
The 22-year-old retired seven of the first eight batters and finished with seven strikeouts, walking one before a crowd of 6,570. The Fisher Cats fell into last place for much of the season but came on strong at their home park in August, winning their fourth straight series at home.
In the second inning, Gabe Jacobo rocketed a three-run homer to give New Hampshire (61-77) all the offense it needed. Portland starter Drake Britton (4-7) turned in a quality start but took the loss, yielding three earned runs through six innings.
Sea Dogs reliever Chris Martin pitched the seventh and eighth, giving up doubles to Brad Glenn, Ryan Schimpf and Joel Galarraga. Fisher Cats leadoff man Jake Marisnick had a pair of hits in New Hampshire’s eight-hit attack. The Sea Dogs loaded the bases in the ninth inning against Trystan Magnuson but couldn’t score.
