JAFFREY — A Troy man and woman have been arrested in connection to several car break-ins at Mount Monadnock hiking trails parking areas.

The arrests are the result of a joint investigation conducted by the Dublin, Fitzwilliam, Jaffrey and Troy police departments.

Bryant Day, 23, of Mill Street, Troy, has been charged with approximately 20 counts of criminal mischief and theft from a motor vehicle in Jaffrey alone, Jaffrey Police Chief William Oswalt said.

“We had the same kind of problem around the mountain trail heads,” said Dublin Police Chief James Letourneau.

Bonnie Parkhurst, 22, of Mill Street, Troy, has been arrested and charged by Dublin police for conspiracy to commit theft, Letourneau said.

Dublin also arrested and charged Day with unauthorized theft from a motor vehicle and criminal mischief, he said.

According to Oswalt, Dublin police first identified Day as a suspect through photographic evidence. Dublin and Jaffrey police also observed and had contact with Day at locations where several car breaks-ins took place over recent weeks including hiking trails in Dublin and the state park parking area on Shaker Farm Road South in Jaffrey.

A Jaffrey police search warrant for Day’s residence in Troy was executed by multiple agencies, according to Oswalt, and recovered several items matching the description of items stolen during the car breaks-ins.

This led Troy police to arrest and charge Day with receiving stolen property and Jaffrey to issue an arrest warrant for him.

Day turned himself in to Jaffrey police on Aug. 23. The same day Dublin police charged the pair.

Day was released on the Jaffrey charges on $10,000 personal recognizance bail with a court date at the 8th Circuit Court, District Division, Jaffrey, on Oct. 4.

Dublin police released Day on $10,000 personal recognizance bail and Parkhurst on $1,500 personal recognizance bail.

Day and Parkhurst have a Nov. 6 court date in Jaffrey for the Dublin charges.

Oswalt said Thursday the investigation continues and would not rule out the possibility of other suspects in the Jaffrey thefts.

“I can say there are a number of leads and bits of information that we continue to investigate, including input from various members of the community. It’s far from over,” he said.

Letourneau, though, said the arrests of Day and Parkhurst close his case on the three recent car break-ins in Dublin.

He added he is pleased with the cooperation among the different departments that led to finding the suspects.

“It’s a real bummer after going up the mountain and coming back from a hike to see your car has been broken into,” Letourneau said.
