Fisher Cats lose in 9th inning, 4-3
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats climbed back from a two-run deficit before reliever Ronald Uviedo allowed a walk-off double to Rock Cats catcher Chris Herrmann in the bottom of the ninth to give New Britain a 4-3 victory at New Britain Stadium in New Britain, Conn. on Friday night.
After left fielder Ryan Schimpf hit his eighth homer of the season in the sixth to cut New Britain's lead to 3-2 and center fielder Jake Marisnick doubled in Koby Clemens in the seventh to tie it up, Uviedo (5-3) walked Aaron Hicks then allowed Herrmann's game-winning double with one out in the ninth.
Marisnick had two hits in the game and scored the other Fisher Cats run. Designated Hitter Brian Van Kirk also had multiple hits, while Mark Sobolewski added an RBI.
Deck McGuire had a respectable outing in his last appearance of the season, tossing five innings of three-run ball while allowing six hits. John Stilson, Michael Dubee, and Chorye Spoone combined for three shutout innings in relief of McGuire, giving up just two hits and one walk.
The Fisher Cats (61-78) knocked seven hits off of Rock Cats (72-67) starter Andrew Albers, but were only able to tag him with two runs. He struck out six. Bruce Pugh (4-2) picked up the win in relief, retiring Mark Sobolewski and Brad Glenn in the top of the ninth. New Hampshire evened it up off Aaron Thompson who allowed a run in his 1 1/3 innings of work before being relieved in favor of David Bromberg, who pitched a scoreless inning.
Fisher Cats batters were just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position, stranding 11 runners on base in the game.
The two teams square off again today at 7:05 p.m. before the Fisher Cats wrap up the series and their season with two day games Sunday and Monday at 1:35 p.m.
