Central, Trinity coast to easy wins

Manchester Central quarterback Riley Cote threw four touchdown passes and finished with 239 yards in the air as the Little Green blanked Timberlane, 32-0, in a non-league football game in Plaistow Friday.

Cote’s biggest scoring passes covered 62 yards and 40 yards and were hauled in by Abe Madra and Troy Pelletier.

Hector Velez kept the Central offense clicking throughout the night as he finished with 147 receiving yards and two touchdown catches. He also gained 65 yards on the ground.

Hard-working David Weekly rushed for 119 yards on 17 carries.

The Little Green led 12-0 at the half, but its stifling defense hindered the Owls’ offensive execution from the opening kick off.

Central opens its Division I slate when it drives to Concord Friday.

Trinity 49, Kingswood 6: In Manchester, the Pioneers racked up 293 yards on the ground as they rolled by Kingswood in the season opener.

Saiku Bah led the attck with two touchdowns, while four others all had one touchdown each. They were Zack Poole, Ryan Carrier, Romeo Masuku and Chase Hughes. Owen Gonya had the lone touchdown for the Knights (0-1), which came in the third quarter.

Hanover 35, John Stark 0: At Hanover, Cyrus Rothwell-Ferraris led the way on both sides of the ball, hitting the end zone twice on an 11-yard run and on a 3-yard pass from quarterback Sean Cavallaro and wrapping up a game-high 11 tackles in Marauders coach Mike Ivanoski’s 100th career victory.

ConVal 24, Merrimack 6: Chris Queen ran for two touchdowns and ConVal (1-0) held on for a season-opening win over Merrimack (0-1).

Queen’s touchdown runs went for 5 and 1 yards, while safety Max Wildes returned an interception 22 yards for the team’s other score. Jeremy Doubleday also kicked a 42-yard field goal. The Tomahawks got their lone touchdown with the opening possesion of the second half.

Nashua South 35, Spaulding 20: At Rochester, Steven Choate returned the game’s opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown as the Purple Panthers rolled to the victory. Quarterback Trevor Knight was five-for-six passing for 90 yards.

In a strange twist, South, which led 21-14 at the half, ran only 11 plays before the break while Spaulding had 47 plays.

After a 20-play drove which failed to produce any points, the Red Raiders netted their initial six points on a 7-yard Trey Scott run at 11:09 of the second period.

But South responded with a Pat Goff pick-six which covered 42 yards.

Another long Spaulding drive (10 plays), capped by a kevin Medara three-yard burst, tied the game at 14-14.

Knight connected on passes of 27 yards to Choate, 50 yards to Joe Gouveia and seven yards to Goff with 01.8 seconds in the half for the 21-14 intermission score.

Choate and Knight scored in the second half, while Trevor St. Laurent scored for Spaulding as time wound down.

Exeter 42, Dover 7: At Exeter, the defending Division I football champions opened the 2012 campaign in high style, pounding Seacoast and Division II rival Dover in a non-league game.

Tyler Grant rushed for three touchdowns and Chris Kelly added two in the high-scoring contest.

Manchester West 43, Merrimack Valley 19: At Manchester, Blue Knights quarterback Zach Ziemba tossed a 16-yard touchdown pass and Jearod Camire added a two-yard scoring run to fuel a second half winning rally.

A 28-yard six-point long ball from Ziemba as the first half wound down gave West a slim 15-13 intermission lead.

Portsmouth 22, Londonderry 10: At Portsmouth, Jack Mackey intercepted an errant Lancers pass and returned the ball 30 yards and into the end zone to snap a 10-10 tie.

Concord 41, Hollis-Brookline 0: In Concord, junior quarterback Mark Gaudet ran for two touchdowns and threw for another to help Division I Concord open its season with a non-league victory over Division III Hollis-Brookline.

Tailback Tolbert Nemo had two rushing TDs for Concord, which led 27-0 at halftime. Nemo missed most of the preseason with a leg injury.
