Marc Thaler's First and 10: Exeter serves notice
Division IV runner-up Plymouth opened its 2012 NHIAA football campaign by putting six different players into the end zone and posting a 40-21 victory over Lebanon in Plymouth Saturday.
Quarterback Colin Sullivan led the Bobcats with two touchdown passes and a quarterback sneak score. His long scoring aerial was a toss to Ryan Farina which covered 55 yards while his short pass was a bullet to Noah Crane for 20 yards.
Running backs Brandon Goodale and Justin Robertson also scored touchdowns. Goodale carried the ball eight times for 40 yards while Robertson lugged the pigskin six times, also for 40 yards.
The Bobcats defense scored a TD as well, as John Thomas intercepted a pass on the Plymouth 10 and returned it 90 yards to pay dirt.
Plymouth led 40-0 at the half.
Windham 52, Laconia 6: At Windham, running back Dan Cannone rushed for 225 yards and five touchdowns on 14 carries as Windham won its first game in Division IV.
Windham led 29-0 at halftime, and was up 52-0 before Laconia scored a late TD.
Division V
Kearsarge 21, Bow 14: At Sutton, Kearsarge scored on its first possession of the game, and the six-pointer proved to be the difference in the contest.
Bow's Anders Hanson scored both of the Falcons touchdowns, the first coming in the second period on a 62-yard run, and the second on a one-yard plunge late in the third. Travis Reynolds kicked both PATs.
Somersworth 42, Epping/Newmarket 0: At Epping, quarterback Drew Francoeur rushed for three touchdowns and Somersworth capitalized on three Epping/Newmarket turnovers.
Josh Ream, Kurtis Michaud and Nick Honaker also scored for the Toppers, who led 21-0 after one quarter and 35-0 at halftime.
Sanborn 27, Pelham 12: At Kingston, Sanborn's Mike Rich ran for 207 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries to lead the Indians. Sanborn also received two TD passes from quarterback Kyle Seale.
Leo Moro scored twice for Pelham, which trailed 20-6 at halftime.
Division VI
Campbell 43, Newport 22: At Litchfield, Jesiah Wade had 325 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns to lead Campbell of Litchfield. Wade, who carried the ball 24 times for 215 yards, rushed for a touchdown and converted on a two-point conversion to put Campbell up for good, 29-22, in the third quarter.
Kyle Manning connected with Connor Perry on a five-yard touchdown reception and Jordan Lang returned an interception 24 yards for a score for Campbell. Defensive end Trevor Duquette led the Campbell defense with five solo tackles, two blocked punts and a fumble recovery.
Newfound 36, Bishop Brady 35: At Concord, Bishop Brady blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown with just over a minute to play, but the Newfound defense stopped the two-point conversion attempt.
Newfound tailback/linebacker Tyler Maviki k rushed for 301 yards, made 17 tackles and recovered a fumble.
Farmington/Nute 37, Gilford 14: At Gilford, Jamen Gunnison and Audey Healey scored two touchdowns apiece to lead the winners. Also posting six-pointers were Joey Randall and Jase Gergoire who intercepted a pass and returned it for a TD.
Farmington/Nute led 18-8 at the half and extended its lead to 31-8 after three quarters.
Fullback Malcom Benavides and quarterback Jack Athanas turned in strong efforts for the Golden Eagles.
