CONCORD — A Hoit Road man is jailed after he engaged police in a 13-hour armed standoff that started Saturday morning and went past midnight Sunday.

Richard Jenness, 52, was reportedly acting irrationally and making threats to harm himself when police were called around 11 a.m. Saturday, according to police.

Jenness initially refused to come out of the home and the situation escalated when he came out carrying a handgun, according to police.

Jenness then went back inside after refusing to drop the weapon. Officers responded by taking up positions around the home and warning the neighbors, according to police.

A short time later, police heard a gun shot from inside the home, and the Central New Hampshire Special Operations Unit was called in and an arrest warrant was sought for Jenness, according to police.

Shortly after the special operations unit arrived, another gun shot was heard from the home, according to police.

Jenness came out of the house at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday and surrendered to police.

Jenness is being charged with reckless conduct and is being held at the Merrimack County Jail, where he will be held until his arraignment at the Sixth Circuit Court District Division in Concord.
