Milton hit by thieves attracted to water

MILTON — Police are looking for more information about a series of stolen outboard boat motors and canoes in the Micah Terrace area Sunday night or early Monday morning.

Several residents reported the theft of five- and 10-horsepower motors and two canoes in the area near the Salmon Falls River and Milton Three Ponds – near the Maine border. Witnesses heard people in the area between 10:30 p.m. Sunday and 3:30 a.m. Monday, according to police.

Witnesses believe the perpetrators came in from the water to steal the motors, police said.

Police Chief Mark McGowan said the same kind of thefts happened in town several years ago, but it appears the trend has resurfaced.

Anyone with information about the thefts or recalls being in the area at the time, may contact investigators at (603) 652-4514 x108. Anyone who notices suspicious activity in town is encouraged to contact Milton Police at (603) 652-4500.
