100 Nights of Remembrance to hold closing ceremonies at NHSVC next week
BOSCAWEN — The public is invited to visit the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery (NHSVC) in Boscawen on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m. for the closing ceremony of the fifth year of the 100 Nights of Remembrance program.
Every evening from Memorial Day through Sept. 11 at 7 p.m., at least one volunteer bugler sounds taps at the NHSVC to honor the men and women resting there.
The volunteers include males and females, students and retirees, veterans and active-duty military members, and many others. They come together with the common goal of honoring all Americans who have sacrificed for and served honorably in any branch of the U.S. armed forces, police departments and fire departments.
The Sept. 11 ceremony will begin with a procession into the cemetery that includes members of the Muchachos Drum & Bugle Corps and Honor Guard; the Joint Services Honor Guard; the American Legion Honor Guards; the Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards; the Catholic War Veteran Honor Guards; the B Co. U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard; the Marine Corps League Firing Detail; the 5th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry; the New Hampshire State Police Honor Guard; law enforcement and fire department honor guards; the Boy and Girl Scout Honor Guards; and members of Junior ROTC units who participate in the 100 Nights of Remembrance program.
For the finale, organizers hope to have the largest gathering of brass players ever assembled in New Hampshire to sound taps in unison.
If anyone, honor guard or brass player, would like to take part in the ceremony, contact Noel E. Taylor at mailto:noeltylr@gmail.com.
The cemetery is located at 110 Daniel Webster Highway. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
