Democrats outraise GOP in gubernatorial contests

CONCORD — The two major Democratic gubernatorial candidates raised more money than their Republican counterparts in the last two weeks.

According to contribution and expenditure reports due in the Secretary of State’s Office Wednesday, Democratic candidate and former state Sen. Jackie Cilley raised more than the other three major candidates for the corner office.

Cilley raised $81,649 for the two-week period, but stills lags way behind her Democratic counterpart, former state Sen. Maggie Hassan overall. Hassan raised $78,486 for the period, but has raised a total of $1,008,622 for her primary campaign, compared to Cilley’s $314,814.

Cilley also outspent Hassan during the two-week period, spending $233,165 compared to Hassan’s $146,054. But again Hassan has spent a total of $974,589 for her primary campaign, compared to Cilley’s $269,578.

However, Cilley has $45,236 cash remaining compared to Hassan’s $34,033.

On the Republican side, Ovide Lamontagne again outraised counterpart Kevin Smith by a considerable margin.

Lamontagne raised $39,367 for the two-week reporting period, while Smith raised $15,025.

For his primary campaign Lamontagne raised a total of $1.22 million while Smith raised $339,062.

Lamontagne also outspent Smith during the two-week period, spending $258,571 for a total of $724,409, while Smith spent $70,926 during the period and a total of $293,840.

Lamontagne has $499,159 in cash remaining and Smith has $45,222.

The Democratic candidates participated in a televised debate sponsored by the New Hampshire Union Leader and WMUR Wednesday night at the Institute of Politics at St. Anselm College, and the Republicans debate Thursday evening.

The primary election is Tuesday.
