Derry man accused of attempted burglary; second man on the lam
DERRY — A 19-year-old Derry man is under arrest for attempted burglary, and police are searching for a second man after the two allegedly crashed a car on Humphrey Road early Monday afternoon.
Shortly before 1 p.m., a Gervaise Drive resident reported that two young men had tried to break into her home, according to police Capt. Vernon Thomas.
“The caller was able to provide a description of the two as well as a description of the car they were in when they fled the area,” said Thomas. “A responding officer in an unmarked police car observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle and followed it on Route 28 to Danforth Circle.”
The car stopped at a gas station and the officer saw that the two men in the car matched the description of the suspects. The car speeded off from the station as a second officer arrived to help detain the men, according to Thomas.
There was a brief pursuit that was discontinued after the suspect’s car began recklessly passing other vehicles on East Derry Road. Shortly after, police officers found the car rolled over on Humphrey Road.
Humphrey Road was closed for about one hour as police investigated the accident.
The two men in the car fled on foot. Police spotted Michael Taliadores, 19, of 38 Kristin Drive in Derry several minutes later on Humphrey Road, where he was arrested and charged with attempted burglary as well as on a warrant for forgery.
“Officers searched the surrounding area for the second man for approximately two hours following a number of leads but could not locate him,” said Thomas.
While police were investigating, another Gervaise Drive resident reported that his home had been broken into and that some designer label clothing and other items had been taken. Police discovered designer label clothing in the car allegedly crashed by Taliadores and the second man.
The second suspect is still being sought. Thomas said anyone with information about the crimes should contact the Derry Police Department at 432-6111.
