New Horizons receives $10,000 grant



MANCHESTER — New Horizons for New Hampshire has received a $10,000 matching grant from Schnitzer Steel Industries Metal Recycling Yard in Manchester through its company-wide “Racing to Stop Hunger” initiative.

The state's largest soup kitchen, food pantry and homeless shelter received matching funds from an anonymous donor. The grant will help New Horizons restock its shelves at a time when donations have been down, said Executive Director Charlie Sherman.

Microsoft store opening in Salem



Microsoft plans to open its first retail store in New Hampshire in the Mall at Rockingham Park on Sept. 29, which will include a 10:30 a.m. grand opening ceremony and performances near the store at 5 p.m. by rock bands O.A.R. and Young the Giant.

Microsoft said it will donate $1 million in software at the grand opening to local organizations that help create opportunities for youth.

Merrimack coffee vendor opening



MERRIMACK — The Merrimack Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the grand opening of ADM Vending and Coffee at its new location at 20 Continental Blvd. from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The event will include free food and refreshments from The Stocked Fridge, free K-cups and door prizes including a big-screen TV and coffee brewers. Concord liquor store moves to new spot



CONCORD — The New Hampshire Liquor Commission has relocated its New Hampshire Liquor & Wine Outlet within the Capitol Shopping Center on Storrs Street as part of its goal to update facilities statewide. The 6,500-square foot store is now between Blockbuster and Jo-Ann Fabric. Features at the expanded, open-concept store includes a cooler unit for chilled wines and a temperature-controlled refrigeration system for high-end wines, the commission said in a news release.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock adds new director



LEBANON — Christopher Amos, Ph.D., has joined Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center as associate director for population sciences.

He will oversee NCCC's research programs investigating the interplay of cancer and genetics in the general population. Amos previously served as professor of bioinformatics and computational biology and epidemiology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas in Houston.
