Sandblade, Gamache up for Ward 11 alderman job

MANCHESTER — Emily Sandblade and Normand Gamache will face off in November for the Ward 11 alderman seat vacated by Russell Ouellette.

They were the top vote-getters in the primary election on Tuesday, beating the other two candidates, Eric Fischer and Armand Forest.

Gamache received 330 votes, Sandblade 247, Fischer 201 and Forest 107.

The total of was 885 voters cast ballots in the West Side ward, which typically has low turnout.

Sandblade and Gamache will offer voters in November a stark contrast.

Sandblade is known as a small-government Republican and strong backer of the city's tax cap. Gamache is a retired city fire chief, part of a family with four generations that have served in the fire department.

He has said his highest priority is public safety.

Sandblade ran for the Ward 11 seat in 2011, and was the runner up behind Ouellette. Fischer also ran in that race.

The special election for the seat was called after Ouellette resigned in July. He later pleaded guilty to assault charges stemming from a late-night encounter with a woman.
