H.S. Sports Roundup: Schehl lifts Bedford; Central rolls to win

Casey Schehl tallied four points with a pair of goals and two assists, leading Bedford’s boys’ soccer team past Nashua North, 6-0, on Tuesday in Nashua.

The Bulldogs remained unbeaten after four games. Bedford sharpshooters forced Titans keeper Tim Closson to make 11 saves. Shutout goalie Taylor Wallace of Bedford did not register a save in the match. North is 1-4.

Boys’ soccer

Manchester Central 3, Exeter 1: At Manchester, Sam Binigono paced the Little Green offense, taking part in all three goals with two scores and a helper on Romeo Katanga’s second half goal. Selim Salihovic added an assist for Central (4-1-1), while Noah Edmunds and David Gagnon combined for four saves. Matt Vlasich put Exter (4-2) on the board with four minutes remaining.

Hopkinton 2, Bow 1: In Bow, Doug Fleury assisted on Henry Merrow’s game-opening goal then netted the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute to lift Hopkinton past Bow in a matchup of undefeated, Division III boys’ soccer heavyweights..

After Merrow scored in the 11th minute from a cross off an aggressive and quick baseline run by Fleury to give Hopkinton (5-0) a 1-0 lead at the half, Bow’s Dan Drisman scored five minutes into the second frame to knot it up.

Later in the half, Fleury tried to turn the corner again on a baseline run and got hip-checked off the ball by two defenders simultaneously to earn the penalty shot.

Rob Ferguson made seven saves in net for the Hawks, including three in a row on a late Bow scoring opportunity, while Jordan Birtz had four for Bow (5-1).

ConVal 4, Man. West 0: At Peterborough, Grham Ellerkamp scored a pair and Austin Wheeler and David Selmer added insurance goals for ConVal (3-3). Liam McNally made five saves for the Cougars. West is 1-5.

Pembroke 2, Bishop Brady 0: At Pembroke, Shane St. Onge hit the game-winner 64 minutes in and Tyler Gahara put the nail in the coffin 12 minutes later to lead Pembroke (3-1). Austin Sartwell notched the assist on both goals. Alex Trujillo made three saves for the shutout, while Ryan Sandberg stopped eight for the Green Giants (1-4).

Sanborn 3, Campbell 1: At Kingston, Micah Peterson stole the show, having a hand in all three goals for Sanborn (2-2), scoring a pair and assisting on Kyle Lourde’s netter. After the game was tied at the half, the Indians ran off three straight before John Paul Galvez scored on a pass from Tyler Guraino at 70:30 to put Campbell of Litchfield (2-3) on the board. Shaun Howard made five saves in the win, while Jacob Morgan stopped nine for the Cougars.

Merrimack 5, Nashua South 0: At Nashua, five different Tomahawks players found the back of the net, including Chris Lore who had two points. Merrimack (2-2-1) peppered South (0-6) goalie Alex Lowe, who finished with 19 saves.

Girls’ soccer

Nashua South 3, Merrimack 1: At Merrimack, Kennedy Dowling, Marina McIntosh, and Emily Durette scored the goals but it was Lauren Smith who was the star behind the scenes, assisting on all three. Adaeze Obinelo stopped five shots for South (3-2). Merrimack is 1-5.

Pinkerton 3, Timberlane 0: At Derry, a goal apiece for Andrea Galvin, Maggie Cohoon, and Rebecca McGrath paved the way for the undefeated Astros (5-0). Haley Hicks notched two assists, while Maura Kane added the other. Emily Harris picked up the shutout with seven saves, while Emily Barrett stopped four shots for Timberlane of Plaistow (3-2).

Nashua South 3, Merrimack 1: At Merrimack, Kennedy Dowling, Marina McIntosh, and Emily Durette scored the goals but it was Lauren Smith who was the star behind the scenes, assisting on all three. Adaeze Obinelo stopped five shots for South (3-2). Merrimack is 1-5.

Bedford 3, Nashua North 1: At Nashua, Emily Dion put the Titans (2-3) on the board just four minutes into the game, but two goals from Jessica Joseph and another from Joanna Celli ensured victory for the Bulldogs (3-0-1). North dropped to 2-3.

Goffstown 4, Trinity 1: At Manchester, Michele Tremblay figured in the scoring of all four tallies with two goals and two assists. She has 12 goals in five games for the 5-0 Grizzlies. She had 18 goals as a freshman and 28 last season. Bri Turcotte added one goal and one assist. Corinne Natalie had the lone goal for 1-4 Trinity.

Exeter 6, Manchester Central 0: At Exeter, the bigger, stronger Blue Hawks controlled the game’s offensive flow through much of the match and left the Little Green scoreless in a Division I contest. Abby Short and Elise Leavitt scored two goals each for Exeter, which sports a 5-0 record. Central is 2-1-2.

Field hockey

Goffstown 6, Milford 0: At Milford, the Grizzlies improved to 2-3 as Anne Steckowych and Tori Florence each scored a pair of goals. Hannah Gifford was credited with a pair of assists. Goffstown led 3-0 at the half.

Bedford 3, Nashua North 0 (Monday): At Bedford, three first half goals from Tori Cull, Laura Costes, and Kathlyn Rooney paced a win for the Bulldogs (2-3). North is 0-4.
