Milford will host an iron-clad way to raise money for charities
MILFORD — The iron will be flying this weekend as the Souhegan Valley Tournament Association hosts its fourth annual horseshoe tournament to raise money for charity Saturday.
Beginning at 10 a.m., throwers will be lining up to pitch horseshoes at Riley Lumber at 40 Christmas Tree Lane, according to Christine Schwab of the Souhegan Valley Tournament Association.
The annual event is part fun, part fundraiser for SHARE, a community outreach organization that provides food, clothing, cash assistance and Christmas gifts to needy families. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Milford Community Athletic Association, which provides athletic opportunities for kids.
The horseshoe tournament will feature three divisions based on talent and ability including the A class for serious players, B class for those that play regularly and C class for those who only play occasionally but enjoy the sport, Schwab said.
“We are expecting players from all over the state as well as some out-of-state players this year,” said Schwab.
In addition to pitching horseshoes, visitors can enjoy an antique car show along with a concession stand offering snacks.
There won’t be a beer tent this year, however, so coolers are welcome at the event, Schwab said.
For folks who want to play horseshoes more regularly, Schwab said there’s a chance to play weekly.
