The presidential race remains tightly contested, giving a slight edge to President Barack Obama over Mitt Romney in a recent poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center and WMUR Granite State Poll.

Obama held a slim 45 to 40 percent advantage over Romney among those polled. However, the number of voters who were undecided tripled since August, from 4 percent to 12 percent.

A decided gender gap exists: Women prefer Obama by 14 percent and men prefer Romney by a smaller 5 percent split. College educated women give Obama a 25 percent lead compared to working class women, who give Romney a one percent lead.

Of the New Hampshire residents surveyed, 51 percent predict Obama will win reelection compared to just 29 percent who believe Romney will win. This follows along party lines, where 85 percent of Democrats think Obama will win yet only 55 percent of Republicans think Romney will take the White House.
