Conway's Lyons named 2012 Realtor of the Year

LYONS

‘Why it is important that I am a REALTOR®’

“I believe that as individuals and entrepreneurs, our success is to a great degree the result of not only our personal and professional aspirations, but knowing that our work and service contribute to the greater good. Guided by our Code of Ethics, commitment to protection of home ownership and private property rights, equal opportunity, continuing education, and building strong communities, Realtors are truly champions of the American spirit of free enterprise and the American Dream. Being a REALTOR® embodies all of these ideals. I am proud to be a New Hampshire REALTOR®.”

- JAMES LYONS

James Lyons, the broker-owner of Select Real Estate Management in Conway, has been selected by the New Hampshire Association of REALTORS® as its 2012 REALTOR® of the Year.

Lyons, who served as the association's president in 2008 and has four times been named White Mountain Board REALTOR® of the Year, was honored by his peers for his exemplary service as a real estate professional and for his devoted service to his local, state and national associations.

An active member of the White Mountain Board of REALTORS®, Lyons' many accomplishments include having served as board president in 2005 and as a member on almost every board committee in three decades of service.

Despite living roughly two hours from the NHAR office in Concord, Lyons is an active member of three of the association's four standing committees — Legal, Communications and Public Policy. He also serves as chair of the risk management subcommittee and is a state mediator and ombudsman. In 2011, he was a recipient of then-President Tom Riley's NHAR Distinguished Service Award.

Nationally, Lyons has been active as well, having served on the National Association of REALTORS® Communications Committee since 2010, NAR's Risk Management Committee in 2008 and 2009, and NAR's board of directors in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Beyond his tireless work as a volunteer leader, however, Jim has been an adherence to the REALTOR® ideals that is beyond reproach. No one takes more pride in the REALTOR® pin and that for which it stands than Lyons, who often speaks of those ideals — accountability, courtesy, community, professionalism, fairness, cooperation, honor — as, in his words, “the foundation on which we conduct ourselves in our day-to-day business affairs.”

As NHAR president in 2008, speaking at NHAR's 75th anniversary event to an audience that included Gov. John Lynch, Lyons said, “We are community-builders in the most literal sense, not just putting customers in houses but putting neighbors into homes. More than just sellers, we are providers. More than just agents, we are friends.

“We are part of a REALTOR® spirit that serves to bond us in this unique community where our familial cooperation transcends our business competition.”

Lyons is the 53rd member to be named State REALTOR® of the Year.
