DERRY — School district administrators have set dates for the 2013-14 school year budget process.

The five budget work sessions are scheduled to take place on Oct. 22, Nov. 5 and 22, and Dec. 10 and 17 at the Gilbert H. Hood Middle School.

The last budget session is typically optional if the budget process is not finished, according to Jane Simard, school business director.

Simard said the budget process is under way, with the district having received all the salary sheets for its staff and employees. Enrollment numbers are also rolling in, and Simard said Pinkerton Academy usually provides its enrollment numbers around Thanksgiving.

“We’ll be going over all the numbers at our first meeting,” said Simard. “As soon as I get information, I’ll be updating it every budget session. It should be the same process as usual.”

School Board member Ken Linehan requested the administrators provide information about current class sizes before the first budget session.

“I’d like to look and see where we are and if there is anything we need to adjust,” said Linehan.

Superintendent Laura Nelson said that information will be available by the first workshop meeting.

“They will be by grade level and school,” said Nelson.

In the spring, voters approved a School Board-backed budget of $79,062,937 for the current year, which was an increase of 1.1 percent over the previous district budget.

The budget included compensation from a new three-year teacher contract.

The agreement sees teachers getting a 1 percent raise in the first year, a 1.5 percent raise in the second year, and a 2 percent raise in the third.

The increase in salaries, including step raises and benefits, at the current staffing levels are $761,986.57 for the current school year.
