Richard leads UNH field hockey over U. of Pacific under the lights, 7-1
The nationally ranked University of New Hampshire field hockey team showed off its offensive prowess Friday night as its routed the University of the Pacific, 7-1, under the lights at Memorial Field.
Hannah Richard of Hopkinton scored twice for the Wildcats (3-3) who went into the non-conference match ranked 21st nationally. UNH was also ranked fifth nationally in offense, averaging 3.94 goals a game, and showed why as it spotted the Tigers (3-4) a 1-0 lead before scoring four unanswered goals in the first half.
Colby-Sawyer 4, Bay Path 0: In Longmeadow, Mass., Taylor O’Connor of Sanbornton scored a goal in each half to help the Chargers (2-2) roll in a non-conference match. Abbey Simmonds of Bristol also scored for Colby-Sawyer.
Women’ soccer
Dartmouth 3, UNH 0: In Hanover, Marina Moschitto scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 23 seconds left in the first half and the Big Green (3-2) tacked on two more tallies in the second half to pull away from the Wildcats (1-5-1) in a non-conference match.
Men’s tennis
Stonehill 8, Franklin Pierce 1: In Easton, Mass., sophomore Keith Bujak of Lyndeborough produced the only win for the Ravens (0-2).
Cross Country
Wildcats snag second at men’s meet: In Durham, top-five finishes by Daniel DeCrescenzo and Cory Sinotte of Manchester helped the UNH men to a second-place team finish at the America East pre-meet. DeCrescenzo took second and Sinotte came in third. UNH’s Joseph Jourdain of Hudson was eighth, while Vermont senior Ethan McBrien of Dublin was 10th.
UNH women take third: In Durham, Laura Rose Donegan, a freshman from Melbourne, Australia, finished second individual and the Wildcats finished third out of five teams during an America East pre-conference meet.
Donegan covered the 6-kilometer College Woods course in 17:05.95.
Rivier has banner day: In Nashua, Rivier won both individual titles and the women’s team crown during the Eagle Invitational hosted by Daniel Webster at Mines Falls Park. Rivier’s Christina Dick held off NHTI’s Isha Garcia for first place among the women, while Rivier’s Alec Davis of Amherst was first among the men, beating out Mark Richardson of Wolfeboro, who helped NHTI take the team title.
