H.S. Football Roundup: Two late scores earn Pembroke first win
Host Pembroke (1-1) came up with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to earn its first win of the season, 22-8, over Hollis/Brookline during NHIAA Division III high school football action Saturday afternoon at Pembroke.
The game was tied 8-8 at the break after Zach Wiggin picked up the Pembroke touchdown while Nick Noval scored for the Cavaliers.
Ben Paradise scored from 10 yards out and added a conversion run for a 16-8 advantage in the fourth before Adam Gelinas intercepted a Hollis-Brookline pass and returned it for a touchdown.
Division IV
Kennett 19, John Stark 7: Tom Donovan found Will Pollard with one scoring strike and Nick Graziano connected with Devan Bynoe with the other for Kennett (1-2). Nick Massa rumbled into the endzone for the Eagles’ final score. Carson Dunn ran in from three yards out for the touchdown for John Stark (0-3).
St. Thomas 47, Laconia 15: Ryan Monette rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns and Jake Geppert added 85 rushing yards and another touchdown for the Saints (3-0). St. Thomas quarterback Chris Karsonovich was 14-for-23 for 187 yards.
Matt Swormstedt caught a 23 yard touchdown pass from Graham Nyhan for Laconia’s first score and then threw a 19 yard touchdown to Connor Doherty for the second. Laconia is 0-3.
Division V
Somersworth 33, Bow 7: Josh Ream had three rushing touchdowns for the Toppers (3-0) in Bow. Kurtis Michaud also found the endzone on a run while quarterback Drew Francoeur hit Darren Glore with a 30 yard touchdown pass.
Jacy Parker scored the lone touchdown for the host Falcons (0-3) on a 5-yard run. Travis Reynolds hit the point after. The game was 13-0 at halftime.
Division VI
Campbell 53, Raymond 7: Jesiah Wade ran all over the visiting Raymond (0-3) defense, racking up three touchdowns and 150 yards in the first quarter alone. He had two rushing scores and returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown. Quarterback Christian McKenna hooked up with Max Gouveia for a 40-yard touchdown and Trevor Duquette hit a 36-yard field goal. Jordan Lang added six solo tackles for Campbell (3-0).
Franklin 42, Gilford 6: Beck Stecker caught a 23 yard pass from Jack Athanas for Gilford’s lone score. Malcolm Benavides made 23 solo tackles and assisted on four others for the Eagles (0-3) defense.
Newfound 24, Farmington-Nute 18: Jared Dearborn threw touchdown passes to Devin Field and Doug Payne for Newfound (3-0) and ran one in himself. Tyler Maviki also scored for the Bears.
Juan Valdez had a 26 yard run and Jamen Gunnison scored on a screen pass and on a 40 yard run for Farmington-Nute’s scores.
Winnisquam 40, Newport 6: Hunter Karwocki had 22 carries for 149 yards and three touchdowns for the Bears (2-1). Austin Hunt had 50 rushing yards and a touchdown and Parker Normand intercepted a pass and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown.
Inter-division
Keene 24, Goffstown 13: Keene quarterback Issac Rickson tossed a 37-yard touchdown pass to Nick Hume and a 3-yard TD pass to Preston Haney to help the Blackbirds improve their record to 3-0 overall (1-0 in Division II) Saturday in Goffstown.
Keene received a 10-yard TD run from Tim Lane and a 24-yard field goal from Ben Stein.
Sophomore Matt Collins had two touchdown passes for Goffstown, which dropped to 1-2 overall (1-0 in Division III). Paul Teixeira made a 15-yard TD catch, and Ryan Pinard had a 3-yard TD catch. Both coaches elected to play primarily junior varsity players in the non-league contest.
