MANCHESTER — Three people, including a 3-month-old baby, were thrown from a pickup truck after a crash on Interstate 93 Sunday.

New Hampshire State Police spokesman Lt. Nicole Armaganian said a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling southbound on I-93 rolled over and ended up in the median strip at 11:32 a.m.

The baby was not properly secured in its car seat and suffered a broken arm, police said.

The median strip near the scene of the crash is on a steep hill, and the truck came to rest on the incline, near mile marker 19.

A southbound 2001 Chevy minivan driven by Karlene Cloutier, 53, of Manchester made what Armaganian described as “an unsafe lane change” from the right lane to the passing lane to her left, where a 2000 Chevy pickup truck driven by Guillermo Pacheco-Marquez, 22, of Manchester was traveling.

Armaganian said that to avoid colliding with the pickup truck, Cloutier moved her minivan back into her lane of travel, but not before Pacheco-Marquez made an evasive maneuver to his left to avoid hitting the minivan.

That move caused the truck to leave the left side of the highway, rolling over multiple times as it went down a nearby incline, she said.

Inside the pickup truck were a female passenger (who Armaganian said police had not identified as of Sunday night) and her 3-month-old baby. They were ejected from the vehicle, along with Pachecho-Marquez. All were taken to Elliot Hospital.

State police said Pacheco-Marquez suffered multiple broken bones and internal injuries, while the female passenger reported minor injuries. The baby's arm was broken. Pacheco-Marquez was listed in serious condition Sunday night.

Armaganian said investigators believe the adult occupants of the pickup truck also were not wearing seatbelts.

Manchester crews assisted at the scene, and the left lane of I-93 was closed for 30 minutes while the injured were treated. Traffic backed up for several miles.

Armaganian said the investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending.
