MANCHESTER — The fall/winter indoor golf season at Birch Hill Terrace Retirement Community kicked off recently with the 11th annual Team Championship Tournament. Eighteen teams, each comprising one resident and one employee of opposite gender, vied for honors.
In an extremely close finish, the team of 95-year-old resident Dick Chase and employee Jackie Brough carded a 74 to eke out a victory over the team of resident Blanch Aldrich and employee Will Harding, who shot a 74.5, and the defending champions, resident Claire Stepnitz and employee Niki St. Cyr, who shot a 75.
Special “hole-in-one” trophies went to three employee golfers — Steve Chandler, Samantha Ford and Gary Zabierek. The ladies' low gross award was earned by St. Cyr (69), while Ed Rogers and Will Harding shot 71 to lead the men.
Humorous awards for “high gross achievement” went to employees Emily Todt and Gary Morgan, while first-year golfer Paulina Evarts won the “frustration award.”
