Danville woman to plead guilty to smuggling drugs to husband in jail
BRENTWOOD — A Danville woman charged with smuggling the narcotic drug suboxone into the Rockingham County jail for her husband has agreed to plead guilty to felony charges.
Michelle Vennochi, 42, will plead guilty to charges of delivery of articles prohibited for smuggling drugs to her husband twice in January, according to court records.
She is accused of bringing suboxone to her husband during jail visits between Jan. 3 and Jan. 7. She also allegedly brought him tobacco on Dec. 3, according to indictments.
Terms of the plea deal have not yet been made public, but Vennochi faces up to 3½ to 7 years in state prison and a $4,000 fine.
Corrections officers learned about Vennochi’s plans after listening to recorded phone calls between her and her husband, Michael Dymek, according to an affidavit. The couple was discussing how to prepare toothpicks so that they could be laced with suboxone, the sheriff’s department said.
“It’s learned at this time that Vennochi has been sliding toothpicks wrapped with suboxone strips through an opening in the divider during visits at the jail,” sheriff’s department deputy Sgt. Jay Murphy said in an affidavit.
Michelle Vennochi was already indicted for allegedly having Oxycodone at her home when the investigation into the drug-delivery case began in December.
She was indicted in May on the drug-delivery charges.
When investigators learned of a plan to bring more laced toothpicks into the jail, they set up audio and video recorders on Jan. 7 to capture the transaction, court documents say.
Corrections officers and deputies watched the drug exchange then took Vennochi into custody as she was leaving the county jail. Dymek was found with toothpicks in his pocket, according to court records.
Vennochi will make her plea on Sept. 26 in Rockingham County Superior Court.
