TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the seventh inning and salvaged one win in their three-game series with the Boston Red Sox with a 5-0 victory on Sunday.

Omar Vizquel’s single against left-hander Jon Lester (9-12) broke a scoreless tie and Adeiny Hechavarria followed with two-run homer in Toronto’s big seventh inning.

Blue Jays starter Brandon Morrow did not factor in the decision after pitching six scoreless innings. He held the Red Sox to four hits and a walk. The right-hander had thrown 102 pitches when he was removed in favor of left-hander Brett Cecil.

Brandon Lyon (3-0) picked up the win in relief.

Lester took a one-hitter into the seventh and finished by allowing four hits and three runs while striking out seven in seven innings.

In the first four innings, Boston twice had two runners on bases, but Morrow stranded them each time.

Dustin Pedroia singled and Jacoby Ellsbury walked with one out in the first, and Cody Ross singled to lead off the fourth and went to second on a one-out single by Jarrod Saltalamacchia. But the Red Sox couldn’t produce.

Meanwhile, Lester overcame a leadoff double in the third by Vizquel.

The Blue Jays had a threat in the fifth after Moises Sierra led off with a walk. Sierra took second on a throwing error by Lester on a bunt by Yan Gomes. The pitcher had an easy force out at second available on the play, but his throw went into center field. Lester worked out of it with two strikeouts and a groundout.

Cecil took over from Morrow to start the seventh and struck out his only batter, Saltalamacchia, before Lyon took over.

Toronto’s second hit of the game was a two-out single in the seventh by Gomes. Rajai Davis ran for him and stole second. He scored on a single by Vizquel, and Hechavarria followed with his second major-league homer for a 3-0 lead.

Vizquel’s hit tied him with Jesse Burkett at 2,872 for 42nd on the all-time list.

Left-hander Darren Oliver took over in the eighth for Toronto and gave up two one-out singles before ending the inning when Ross hit into a double play.

Daniel Bard took over for Boston in the eighth and allowed a leadoff double to Brett Lawrie and a run-scoring single to Colby Rasmus, who took second on an error by left-fielder Ryan Kalish.

The Blue Jays picked up another run in the inning on a single by Sierra against Scott Atchison.
