BAE weapons on unmanned vehicle

NASHUA — For the first time, the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System manufactured by BAE Systems will be integrated onto an unmanned aerial vehicle, the company announced Monday. BAE, which designed and manufactures the guidance section of the laser-guided rocket, was recently awarded a Navy contract to add the system onto the MQ-8B Fire Scout UAV.

The system is being integrated onto the Fire Scout in response to an urgent operational need and is being prepared for rapid deployment, the company said. BAE Systems will support the integration by performing system analyses and modeling based on its integrated flight simulator.

BAE Systems has been the prime contractor of the weapon system since 2006.

Program to inspect state electric lines

HAMPTON — Unitil Corp. has launched a new inspection program designed to locate possible trouble spots along electric lines before they cause outages.

The pilot program, which the natural gas and electricity provider began Sept. 6, involves driving the entirety of Unitil’s electric infrastructure in the state and inspecting the lines with infrared equipment. Similar technology has been used by Unitil to inspect substations as well as the sub-transmission system, but this is the first time the same method has been used on distribution lines, the company said.

The inspection is being done for Unitil by Osmose Utility Services Inc., a third-party contractor, and is expected to be completed this fall.

Ira Lexus celebrates new dealership

BEDFORD — Ira Lexus will celebrate the grand opening Wednesday of its new dealership at 18 Kilton Road.

The event, from 6 to 9 p.m., will be catered by the Hanover Street Chop House. Tours of the new dealership will follow a ribbon cutting.

Ira Lexus moved from space it shared with Ira Toyota Lexus on Auto Center Road in Manchester to a building nearly triple in size in Bedford.
