Police release mother's name in I-93 crash
MANCHESTER — Police Tuesday identified the 21-year-old mother of a 3-month-old baby both injured in Sunday's accident on Interstate 93.
State police said Elizabeth Ponce, 21, suffered a fractured shoulder during the crash and is expected to be released from the hospital today. Her 3-month-old daughter sustained a broken arm and had blood in the brain area and was expected to remain in the hospital for several more days.
Police said both the baby and the child's car seat were thrown from a pickup truck involved in the Sunday morning accident on Interstate 93.
State police are investigating how the child and the car seat were secured inside the 2000 Chevrolet pickup where it rolled over in the median of I-93. The driver, Guillermo Pacheco-Marquez, suffered several fractured vertebrae, a fractured sternum and fluid in one of his lungs.
State police spokesman Lt. Nicole Armaganian said Monday, “How this is not a fatality is amazing.”
Police said Pacheco-Marquez is expected to remain in the hospital while he recovers from his injuries.
Police added that the case remains under investigation and charges will be pending.
