Fire investigators expected to go into Sahara Market today
MANCHESTER — A construction crew on Tuesday tore down walls at the Massabesic Street market destroyed in Sunday's fire to make it safe for investigators to enter the building today.
City fire investigators, representatives from the state Fire Marshal's office and the owner's insurance company are expected to go into the 750 Massabesic St. building today to continue their probe of how and where the three-alarm blaze started, District Fire Chief Michael Gamache said.
“Nothing is being ruled out,” Gamache added.
Investigators found “some indicators” Tuesday that could help determine what happened, he said.
Reports indicate the fire started on or near the second floor, which was used for storage, Gamache said.
The building housed the Sahara International Market, which was closed for business when the fire broke out about 9:51 p.m. Sunday. It previously was home to Cheapo Depot discount store. It had been the site of an arson fire on March 8, 2010.
