College Sports Roundup: SNHU men's soccer team wins

Three different players scored as No. 24 Southern New Hampshire University posted a 3-0 Northeast-10 men’s soccer victory over Stonehill College Wednesday night at Larkin Field. The Penmen improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the NE-10, while the Skyhawks are now 1-5-1 and 0-4 in the league.

Southern New Hampshire took a 1-0 lead at the 12:28 mark. Sophomore Miguel Carneiro sent a right-to-left corner kick into the box that classmate Kenny Doublette headed home for his first goal of the season. The Penmen made it 2-0 4:21 before halftime as Chris Tsonis scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season off a feed from Sebastian Stezewski.

Carneiro added the third SNHU goal 4:24 into the second half when he collected a deflection off of a Skyhawk defender and snuck a ball inside the far left post from 12 yards.

Field hockey

Dartmouth 6, Bryant 5: Dartmouth College exploded for four goals in the first half for a 6-5 field hockey win against Bryant College in Hanover yesterday. Lisa Masini, Sam Anderson, Samantha McPherson and Liz Blanken each tallied a goal. Maya Herm added two assists.

Castleton State 4, N.E. College 3: At Henniker, Kate Roberge scored a goal for the 2-6 Pilgrims.

Lasell 4, Rivier 3 (2 ot): At Newton, Mass., Presleigh Skelley had two goals for the Raiders (1-5, 0-1 NAC).

Women’s tennis

SNHU 9, Assumption 0: Alena Mukdaprakorn tied the all-time wins total in doubles play, earning her 64th victory for the 2-0 Penmen.

Bentley 9, Franklin Pierce 0: At Rindge, the Ravens dropped to 0-3.

Honors

Franklin Pierce: In Rindge, freshman middle Lina Kleinschmidt is named Northeast-10 Conference rookie of the week. Katie Jackson and and Stephanie Svorinic were each selected to the Conference’s weekly honor roll.

In a 2-0 week for the Ravens in which the team didn’t lose a set, Kleinschmidt hit .457 and averaged 3.17 kills per set. She totaled 19 kills against just three errors over 35 attempts. Along the way, she added seven aces (1.17 per set) and eight blocks (one solo).

Dartmouth College: For the 10th straight year, the Dartmouth women’s tennis team has been named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team. Additionally, three Dartmouth players - Rachel Decker-Sadowski, Sarah Leonard and Theresa Smith - were honored as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
