NHIAA Football Roundup: Boudreau's three scores pace Bishop Guertin win
Running back Blake Boudreau caught a touchdown pass and ran for two TDs to help Bishop Guertin defeat Dover, 27-7, Saturday night at Nashua’s Stellos Stadium.
Dover struck first on Eric Waddington’s 2-yard run with 8:31 left in the first quarter, but BG pulled even when Boudreau caught a 9-yard TD pass from Tom Hurley with 8:28 left in the half.
Hurley then hooked up with Kevin Kiczuk for a 42-yard touchdown pass with 1:27 remaining in the second quarter. The Cardinals led 13-7 at halftime.
BG took a 20-7 lead after Boudreau scored on an 18-yard run with 2:20 remaining in the third quarter, and extended its lead to 27-7 when Boudreau scored on a 7-yard run midway through the fourth.
BG improved its record to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in Division II. Dover fell to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in Division II.
The game featured the two programs that met in last year’s Division II championship game.
Division I
Pinkerton 35, Salem 7: In Derry, junior running back Manny Latimore ran for three touchdowns to help the Astros move their record to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in Division I. Latimore scored on runs of 66 and 30 yards in the first half, and added a 1-yard run in the third quarter.
Pinkerton also received a 1-yard TD run from quarterback Shawn Conroy and a 62-yard run by Jake Lasauskas.
Division III
Goffstown 43, Pembroke 22: Senior quarterback Connor Benjamin threw four touchdown passes and rushed for two more to help Goffstown High School defeat Pembroke Academy, 43-22, Saturday in Pembroke.
Benjamin gained 228 yards on the ground and passed for 170. He has not been intercepted this season.
“He did his thing,” Goffstown coach Justin Hufft said. “I’ve been real impressed with his decision-making. That’s where he’s made the biggest improvement.”
Ashton Florence caught two TD passes for Goffstown, which improved to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in Division III.
Mike O’Donnell and Christain Marquis each had a TD catch as well. Running back Peter Shea added 90 yards on the ground.
Pembroke, which trailed 36-22 at halftime, dropped to 1-2 overall and in the division.
Souhegan 35, Hollis/Brookline 13: At Hollis, quarterback Tyler Ford ran for two touchdowns and passed for two more as the Sabers raised their Division III record to 3-0 (3-1 overall). Drew Prescott and Denny Desserault had TD receptions for Souhegan. Prescott also scored on a 52-yard run.
Souhegan’s Brandon Len collected his fifth interception of the season. The loss dropped Hollis-Brookline to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in Division III.
Division IV
Kennett 7, Lebanon 0: At Conway, Nate Arnold accounted for the game’s only touchdown on a 19-yard run in the second quarter to help the Eagles improve to 2-2.
Kennett’s Tom Donovan, Grant Meserve and Christian Rivers each intercepted a pass. The loss dropped Lebanon to 1-3.
Division V
Monadnock 21, Somersworth 14: At Swanzey, Monadnock squandered a 14-point lead late in the fourth quarter and needed a TD in overtime to prevail.
D.J. Lolito caught a 10-yard touchdown pass on the first play of OT, and Somersworth failed to scored on its overtime possession.
Monadnock led 14-0 late in the fourth quarter, but Somersworth scored 14 points in the final 2:20. Drew Francouer cut Monadnock’s lead in half when he scored on a 39-yard run with 2:20 to play, and after Monadnock fumbled the ball away on its own 16-yard line Somersworth scored again with just over two minutes left.
Monadnock’s Dylan Lane scored the only touchdown in the first half on a 2-yard run. Lane’s TD capped a 16-play, 68-yard drive with 9:22 left in the second quarter. Somersworth was held to minus-10 yards of net offense through two quarters.
The Huskies doubled their lead on Jake Poulin’s 2-yard run with 2:47 to play.
Monadnock has won three in a row and improved its record to 3-1. Somersworth is also 3-1.
Sanborn 7, Epping-Newmarket 0: At Kingston, Sanborn scored the game’s only touchdown on a 1-yard run on a fourth-down play in the second quarter.
Epping-Newmarket moved the ball to Sanborn’s 9-yard line on its final possession, but the drive stalled following an incomplete pass on fourth down.
Sanborn is now 2-2. Epping-Newmarket dropped to 1-2.
Division VI
Winnisquam 27, Gilford 6: At Gilford, Winnisquam’s Hunter Karwocki returned the opening kickoff 72 yards for a touchdown to help the Bears improve to 3-1.
Karwocki scored all four Winnisquam touchdowns. He rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries.
Gilford fell to 0-4.
Franklin 7, Farmington-Nute 0: At Franklin, the Golden Tornadoes registered their second shutout of the season and extended their winning streak to three games.
Franklin improved to 3-1. Farmington-Nute, which has lost three in a row, slipped to 1-3.
Newport 21, Mascoma 14: At Canaan, senior running back Devin Wade caught two touchdown passes and ran for another as Newport collected its first victory of the season.
The Tigers led 21-7 at halftime and raised their record to 1-3.
Mascoma dropped to 2-2.
