Saturday fires in Manchester suspicious
MANCHESTER - Police reported two suspicious fires Saturday, one mid-morning in the dumpster of a towing business on South Beech Street, the other late at night in the alley of a West Side neighborhood.
A neighbor of Performance Towing, 220 S. Beech St., told police he saw a small red vehicle, possibly a Kia, fleeing the area just before the fire, Manchester police said.
The fire was in the dumpster of the business and was extinguished by Manchester Fire Department. Police said it was reported about 10:30 a.m.
Later Saturday about 11:40 p.m., a suspicious fire was reported at 666 Rimmon St. Police said the Fire Department extinguished a fire in two mattresses stacked in the alley near buildings.
A neighbor had reported a fire in a nearby bush and had doused it with a fire extinguisher. He was unable to put out the mattress fire, but firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire.
Anyone with information on either fire is encouraged to contact the Manchester Police Department at 668-88711.
