Weirs Beach building razed 2 years after fire

LACONIA — A restaurant and bar in Weirs Beach destroyed by fire on Sept. 17, 2010, has been razed.

The Wide Open Saloon at 38 Endicott St., North, owned by Brandi Baldi, had been demolished but debris remains on the property, which is adjacent to the Weirs Beach Drive-In and across the street from the iconic Weirs Beach art deco sign.

Residents have been concerned for the health, safety and visual impact of a burned- out building in the heart of the tourist area.

The city has been in court for almost two years trying to get the building removed.

City councilors Monday night noted that the debris was to be removed by Sept.

12 as was the agreement between the owner and the city.

The council agreed to go back to court to get approval to remove the debris and place a lien on the property for the cost, if it is not removed by Oct. 1.
