A Massachusetts pediatrician facing federal pornography charges had his license to practice medicine in New Hampshire suspended.

The New Hampshire Board of Medicine on Sept. 20 suspended Dr. Richard J. Keller’s license effective immediately. The board took the action without a hearing, citing imminent public safety and health concerns.

The board will hold a hearing Oct. 3 to determine if Keller’s license should remain suspended during the course of the ongoing investigation.

Keller, who lives in Andover, Mass., was arrested on federal pornography charges for allegedly buying child pornographic movies from a foreign country between July 2009 and January 2011, the board claimed in its order suspending Keller’s license. Investigators also seized about 500 sexually explicit photos involving minors during a search of Keller’s home, according to the report.

Keller most recently practiced pediatrics at Children’s Hospital in Boston. Prior to that, he worked as medical director of Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass.

Keller holds an active license to practice medicine in New Hampshire. It was issued July 3, 2002.
