H.S. Sports Roundup: Bedford prepares for Hanover showdown with win over Concord
Ahead of its Friday showdown with Division I foe Hanover, the Bedford boys’ soccer team remained undefeated with a 3-0 road win over Concord behind strong performances from Casey Schehl and Erik Martel on Tuesday.
Schehl hit a penalty kick eight minutes in for the game-winner, then assisted on a Martel goal at 24:00. Martel then assisted on a Marco Ibanez goal in the second half.
Tyler Wallace picked up the shutout with three saves for the Bulldogs (8-0), while Ben Scharlotte had five for Concord (2-5-1).
Hanover 4, Salem 0: At Salem, four different Marauders scored to give Hanover (7-1) its fourth consecutive win. Jonas Tanzer kicked off the scoring at 11:50, followed by second half goals by Evan Greenwald, Tomas LaPorta, and Jacob LaPoint. Brendan Barth, Daniel Hazlett, and Daniel Slayton were all credited with assists. Alex Bynum earned the shutout with five saves, while Andrew Zani stopped 13 for Salem (1-6).
Pembroke 1, St. Thomas 0: At Pembroke, Alex Trujillo earned his fourth shutout of the season and Tyler Gahara scored the game-winner in the 38th minute. Benjamin Mardin stopped four shots for St. Thomas of Dover (3-4-1).
Man.West 2, Goffstown 1: At Goffstown, Thiago Carvalho staked the Blue Knights (2-6) to a two-goal lead as they sprung the upset on the Grizzlies (4-4). Carvalho scored once in the first half and added another midway through the second half off an assist from Ryan Askham.
Trinity 4, Portsmouth 3: At Portsmouth, Jake Zimmerman scored four second half goals to helped Trinity of Manchester (5-3) overcome a strong Clippers attack. Ian Troost put Portsmouth (4-4-1) on the board 35 minutes in, but Zimmerman scored the next three before Colin Siberps and Sean Swift knotted the game up in the last 10 minutes of regulation. Zimmerman netted the game-winner at 78:00 on an assist from Zach Girard.
Londonderry 4, Nashua North 2: At Nashua, Dylan Holland assisted on two goals and scored what proved to be a big insurance goal as the unbeaten Lancers (8-0) held off the upset-minded Titans (2-5-2) at Stellos Stadium. Holland set up Rob Hart for a pair of goals in the first half and, after the Titans closed to within a goal on scores by Nate Madden and Jake Maden, salted the game away with a late second-half tally.
Keene 2, Memorial 1 (OT): At Manchester, Jay Weidenheimer scored off a turnover with 28 seconds left in the first overtime to lift the Blackbirds (8-2) past the Crusaders (2-7). Nic Pare gave Keene a 1-0 lead early in the second half, but Memorial forced overtime when Trevor Faulkner scored off an assist from Josh Belanger with just under two minutes left in regulation.
Field hockey
Bedford 2, Concord 1 (Monday): At Concord, Tori Cull and Laura Costes scored second half goals for Bedford (4-5). Concord is 2-7.
Derryfield 11, Monadnock 0: At Manchester, Berklee Vaillancourt scored three goals and had an assist as the Cougars (8-1) routed the Huskies (1-8). Berklee and her sister Colbi Vaillancourt combined for five goals as Derryfield jumped out to an 8-0 lead at the half.
Girls’ soccer
Londonderry 5, Nashua North 0: At Londonderry, Kayleen Walberg scored two goals and assisted on another as the Lancers (9-1) rolled to their ninth straight win. Walberg set up Aliza Simpson for the only goal of the first half and scored twice in the second half. Merissa Brousseau made three saves in goal for the shutout.
Goffstown 6, Man. West 1: At Manchester, the unbeaten Grizzlies rode four goals from Michele Tremblay as they cruised past the Blue Knights (0-8). Kelsey Benson and Georgia Caine also scored for Goffstown, while Anja Masic had the lone goal for West.
Bedford 2, Concord 1: At Bedford, Johanna Celli and Jenny Mara scored on assists from Jessica Joseph and Janelle Makmann, respectively, to lead the Bulldogs (7-1-1) to victory. Ariel Berger scored for Concord (3-4-2).
Timberlane 2, Dover 0: At Plaistow, Nora Magliochetti and Sam Coryea scored to lead the Owls (6-4) to victory. Audrey Muscato had nine saves for Dover (1-5-3).
Man. Central 1, Pinkerton 0 (OT): At Manchester, Nicole Rust took a pass from Victoria Vincent less than two minutes into overtime and slipped it past Pinkerton of Derry goalkeeper Emily Harris on the low right side of the net for the victory. Gabby Desjardins stopped eight for Central (4-3-2) while Harris made six saves for Pinkerton (6-2-1).
