Prosecutors get more time to seek indictment against Londonderry woman

BRENTWOOD — State prosecutors have been given more time to seek an indictment against a Londonderry woman charged with shooting to death her ex-boyfriend as he slept inside his home.
Nicole LeBlanc, 39, was arrested on Feb. 24 on a first-degree murder charge for fatally shooting Richard Mannion Jr. of Sandown.
Assistant Attorney General Peter Hinckley did not detail in court papers why the state was seeking an extension to bring its case before a grand jury.
Judge Marguerite Wageling approved the request on Sept. 13, the same day it was submitted to the court.
The state typically has 90 days to seek an indictment against a person after they are arrested unless they seek permission from a judge for more time.
Mannion’s body was found by his girlfriend on Jan. 14, according to state police.
State police say that LeBlanc admitted to a friend that she murdered Mannion, 43, a divorced father of four, and took his cell phone and searched his computer after the killing.
LeBlanc allegedly broke into Mannion’s home the night before the murder through a basement window and unlocked a door she later used to access the house.
She returned hours later finding Mannion asleep in his bed, police said. She then drew a .380 pistol, pointed it at Mannion and fired, according to police.
The gun jammed at first, but fired the second time, police said.
In the months leading up to the murder, LeBlanc was ordered by a judge to stay away from Mannion after she was convicted of simple assault. LeBlanc twice violated that no-contact order by appearing at Mannion’s home in Sandown on Dec. 25 and Dec. 28, the affidavit says.
LeBlanc initially gave an alibi for her whereabouts on the night of the murder, claiming she went to the movies with her friend Dennis Johnson then to a bar in Nashua.
Johnson, of Hollis, has not been charged in the case.
On Feb. 21, state police recorded a phone call between Johnson and LeBlanc in which she detailed the break-in at Mannion’s home and carried out the murder, the affidavit says.
