The 30th annual Mack Plaque competition takes place between Londonderry High School and Pinkerton Academy of Derry this weekend.

Londonderry hosts eight events over two days as the two Division I schools renew their annual fall rivalry (the schools’ cheerleaders compete later in the fall).

The school with the most victories earns the hardware. The Astros are the defending champs after winning five events last year.

Golf kicks off competition Friday at 3:15 p.m. at Passaconaway Country Club in Litchfield. All other events take place Saturday.

The girls’ and boys’ cross-country teams compete at 10 and 10:30 a.m., respectively. Pinkerton runners crossed the finish line first last year, but the Lancers won both team competitions.

Pinkerton (8-1) looks to continue its dominance in girls’ volleyball when it takes on the Lancers (4-5) at 10 a.m.

Two of Division I’s top field hockey teams face off at noon. Pinkerton (7-1-1) got the best of Londonderry (7-2) last year. Soccer takes over later in the afternoon. The girls play at 2. Londonderry, led by a potent offense, has lost just once in 10 matches this year. The Astros (6-2-1) beat Londonderry during Mack Plaque competition last year, but the Lancers topped Pinkerton in the playoffs.

Two Division I boys’ powerhouses collide at 4. Londonderry (8-0) dominated Pinkerton (8-2) last year, beating the Astros during the regular season and playoffs. Pinkerton had a six-game winning streak before falling to Timberlane on Thursday.

In the weekend finale, Pinkerton (2-1) football looks for an 11th-straight regular-season victory against Londonderry (1-1) at 7.

The Astros, who dominated in a 41-6 win last year, have outscored their last two opponents 77-14. Londonderry is coming off a loss to Manchester Memorial.
