MANCHESTER — A stonemason who collected more than $150,000 in deposits from customers, then failed to complete his work or return his customers’ money before fleeing the state, pleaded guilty Friday in Hillsborough County Superior Court North to theft by unauthorized taking, according to a new release from state Attorney General Michael A. Delaney.

After taking the customer deposits, Daniel Bishop apparently left New Hampshire in 2006, eluding capture by using different names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers for identification.

He was arrested in Pennsylvania and sentenced Friday to between 30 months and six years in prison and to pay restitution of $154,719.03 to 27 victims.

He is also barred from owning or operating a stonemason business for at least 10 years, the release said.

“The victims of Mr. Bishop have waited a long time for justice to be done in this case,” Delaney wrote in the release. “My office will continue to work on behalf of New Hampshire consumers in bringing unscrupulous people who do business in this state to task, no matter how long it takes.”
