Police apprehend Rochester man Sunday

ROCHESTER – A local man was arrested for several charges Sunday after he allegedly fled the scene following two-vehicle accident at the Globe Plaza Friday night.

Dale Carpenter, 36, of 9 Russell St., was charged with two felony counts - conduct after an accident and being a habitual offender - as well as three counts of misdemeanor theft.

Police, firefighters and emergency personnel responded to 306 North Main St around 9:47 p.m. after a southbound 1996 Dodge Ram pickup drove off the road and struck a 2010 Ford Explorer, driven by Hasan Akisk, 49, of Watertown, Mass., as it was stopped in the entrance to the Globe Plaza waiting to exit.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage in the collision.

Akisk received minor injuries in the collision, but he was treated and released from the scene, according to police.

Carpenter allegedly fled into the nearby woods before emergency personnel arrived. Police established a perimeter and began searching for the driver, but could not locate them, even with the assistance of the Rochester K-9 team.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

After police discovered an undisclosed amount of stolen merchandise in the Dodge Ram, they impounded it as part of the investigation which helped obtain a warrant for Carpenter's arrest.
He was released on $5,000 personal recognizance and was scheduled to appear in Rochester District Court Nov. 5 at 8 a.m.
