Jury convicts bank robber of hitting Windham police officer during pursuit
BRENTWOOD - A jury convicted a bank robber Monday of striking a Windham police officer during a high-speed pursuit along Interstate 93 before crashing the getaway car in Massachusetts.
Clint Pickering, 27, formerly of Epsom was found guilty of second-degree assault and seven other charges following a two-day trial in Rockingham County Superior Court. He was found not guilty of two counts of criminal threatening.
Pickering was behind the wheel of his green Dodge Avenger when it struck Windham police Officer Jason Dzierlatka and nearly hit two other Salem police officers who tried to stop the pursuit as it bounded south along Interstate 93 on the afternoon of Sept. 18, 2009.
Pickering is already serving an 11 1/2 year federal sentence for his role in robbing the Bank of New England with his partner, Patrick McKeen, just before the police pursuit. McKeen is serving a 10 1/2 year federal prison sentence for carrying out the robbery.
Judge N. William Delker will now be left to decide whether Pickering’s latest convictions in superior court will add to his time behind bars. The jury returned its verdict just after 1 p.m.
