PLAISTOW — A Massachusetts man was arraigned Monday on a negligent homicide charge following a July accident that claimed the life of a Londonderry woman.

Carlos M. Herrera, 30, of 123 Oak St., Clinton, Mass., remains free on $25,000 personal recognizance bail after he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Emerson Avenue and Route 121 in Hampstead on July 28.

Herrera's 2011 Hyundai Elantra collided with a 2005 Nissan Xterra driven by Althea Hicks, 42, of Londonderry.

Hicks was traveling south on Route 121 at the time of the accident. Herrera was headed west on Emerson Avenue, police said.

The impact of the crash caused Hicks' vehicle to flip onto its roof. Police said she was partially ejected and later died from her injuries.

Because the charge is a felony, Herrera could not enter a plea at his arraignment in the 10th Circuit Court in Plaistow.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Oct. 22 at 10 a.m.
