NHIAA roundup: Trinity boys tip West in overtime
In a back-and-forth overtime battle, Zach Girard scored on a lefty, lofted kick as Trinity of Manchester defeated host Manchester West, 5-4, in Division boys’ soccer action on Monday night.
Girard took advantage of a rebound, popping a shot over West goalie Andrew Laprise (eight saves) in the game’s 82nd minute.
Trinity jumped to a 2-0 lead with goals by Ozzie Kahya and Nick Boire, but the Blue Knights answered with tallies from Lucas Schlickman, Thiago Carvalho and Promise Kpee. Kahya had three goals for Trinity (6-3). Schlickman scored the final goal in regulation for West (2-7), forcing overtime.
Zach Szczeckowicz made 11 saves for Trinity, while Laprise made eight saves for West.
Goffstown 1, Souhegan 0: In Amherst, Brendan Pouliot netted the only goal in the 23rd minute with the assist going to Riley Ellis. Souhegan goalie Brendan Dix stopped five shots while Goffstown keeper Henry Seibel turned back four shots.
Goffstown improved to 5-4 and Souhegan dropped to 5-4-2.
Londonderry 1, Salem 0: In Salem, in the 56th minute, Nate Gaw, on an assist from Dylan Holland, scored the lone goal against Salem keeper Andrew Zani (14 saves). Lancer keeper Bobby Krause had four saves. Londonderry is 10-0, Salem fell to 1-9.
Central 4, Spaulding 2: In Rochester, Central improved to 6-3-1 while Spaulding fell to 1-8. Sam Bingona had two goals for Central while Keegan Laberge and Mohammed Alarajy added one apiece. Spaulding was led by Ricky Lewis and Ben Gilbert.

Hollis/Brookline 3, Alvirne 0: In Hollis, Lindsey Vazquez scored twice as the Cavaliers improved their Division II record to 4-3-1. Kashka Gammon also scored for Hollis/Brookline, which received eight saves from Katherine Kroeger. Tori Laroche made 12 saves for Alvirne, which fell to 2-8-1.
Londonderry 5, Salem 2: In Londonderry, the Lancers scored five first-half goals and raised their Division I record to 10-2.
Kristen Bourque scored twice for Londonderry, which also received goals from Emily Crocetti, Lydia Simmons and Aliza Simpson. Christina Khowy scored twice for Salem, which dropped to 1-8-1.
Nashua South 2, Memorial 1: In Manchester, Emily Durette scored the game-winner in the second half after Memorial’s Jessica Sweetser tied the game. Lauren Smith scored the first goal for Nashua South, 5-5. Memorial remains winless at 0-11.
Epping 1, Moultonborough 0: In Epping, in a mild upset, 4-7 Epping knocked off the 6-5 Panthers. Sabrina Rivers scored the winning goal in the 86th minute.
Merrimack 2, Dover 0: Paige Gibson made 10 saves to record the shutout in Dover.
The Tomahawks improved to 2-9 while Dover dropped to 2-8-2.
Field hockey
Derryfield 2, Sanborn 1: October has arrived and the Cougars are starting to peak at the right time.
Berklee Vaillancourt and twin sister Colbi Vaillancourt each scored to lead the second-ranked Cougars to a Division III win against Sanborn in Kingston Monday.
Derryfield has won five straight matches to improve to 9-1, just one-half game behind division leader Berlin (10-1), which has to contend with third-place Gilford next week.
Sanborn (7-3) took an early lead on a goal from Sara Hunt. Berklee Vaillancourt responded with the tying goal in the 22nd minute, gaining her 11th season goal with the assist going to her sister. Colbi Vaillancourt scored her 12th season goal in the 40th minute, off a feed from Sarah Porat.
Derryfield goalie Lulu Carter stopped four shots while keeper Jillian Walker was busy making 11 stops for the Indians.
Salem 3, Londonderry 1: Amanda Travaglini scored in the first half and second as host Salem held on for the win between a pair of Division I playoff-bound teams. Mikayla Ramsdell scored late for the Blue Devils, who improved to 7-4-1. Jessica Fleet broke up the shutout with a goal for Londonderry (7-4). Goalies Brianna Rastello of Salem and Samantha Harris of Londonderry each had three saves.
Pinkerton 0, Merrimack 0: In Merrimack, second-ranked Pinkerton (8-1-2) staged a scoreless battle with third-ranked Merrimack (7-1-2). Jordan Dudley had three saves for the Astros.
