Middleton man accused of DWI after fiery crash

PORTSMOUTH - A Middleton man is charged with DWI after he crashed his car on Route 16 and fled after it caught fire, according to state police.

The incident happened Wednesday at 6:48 p.m. on Route 16 north between the Portsmouth Traffic Circle and Rockingham Avenue.

A Ford Mustang was on fire and witnesses reported seeing the driver fleeing the scene.

The operator, identified as Richard Davis, 62, of Middleton, was quickly apprehended in woods by Rockingham Avenue. He was arrested and charged with DWI, state police said.
