ALEXANDRIA – A state police bomb squad was called to investigate a “suspicious device” found along Route 104 Friday morning, only to find the device was a hoax.

At about 9 a.m., a motorist traveling on Route 104 in near the Alexandria and Bristol town lines found a suspicious device beside the roadway and called the Alexandria Police Department, police said.

After town officers found the device and confirmed that it did seem suspicious in nature, the New Hampshire State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit was called to the scene.

Police closed Route 104 for about 3 hours until it was determined that the device was not a danger to the public or traveling motorists.

“Upon being examined by technicians, the device was deemed a 'Hoax Device' and had been placed there as a means to alarm the public,” police said in a press release.

The device was taken to the N.H. State Police Forensic Lab for further analysis.
