Peanut butter recall expanded
CONCORD — Sunland Inc. has expanded its recall of peanut butter due to possible salmonella contamination.
The company is voluntarily recalling hundreds of products. Thirty-five people in 19 states have been infected. Five new cases have been reported from three states since Sept. 25 but none in New Hampshire, the health officials said.
The FDA announced that environmental samples taken from the Sunland Inc. nut butter production facility in New Mexico show the presence of salmonella. The Washington State Department of Agriculture laboratory isolated the outbreak strain of salmonella bredeney from an opened jar of recalled peanut butter collected from a patient's home.
Sunland Inc. expanded its ongoing recall to include all products made its nut butter production facility between March 1, 2010, and Sept. 24, 2012.
