Mass. hiker rescued from Gale River Trail in Bethlehem
BETHLEHEM -- A Massachusetts hiker was rescued Sunday after injuring an ankle while hiking the Gale River Trail.
New Hampshire Fish and Game Sgt. Brian Suttmeier said Andrew Heasitz, 42, of Cambridge, Mass., was hiking along the Gale River Sunday afternoon when he slipped on some wet leaves, injuring his left ankle, about three miles up from the trail head. Heasitz was hiking with his wife, who called to report the injury.
Fish and Game officers as well as volunteers members of the Pemigewasset Rescue Team located Heasitz, and after an estimated four-hour carryout effort he was transported by Bethlehem ambulance to Littleton Hospital, where he was treated and released.
