100 pounds of unused medications collected in Raymond
RAYMOND — About 100 pounds of unneeded or unwanted medication was collected during a recent medication take-back event at the local Hannaford grocery store.
It was the fifth Drug Enforcement Agency “Got Drugs” Medication Take Back campaign sponsored by the Raymond Police Department in partnership with the Raymond Coalition for Youth.
According to a 2008-09 study, New Hampshire’s rate of non-medical use of pain relievers among 18- to 25-year-olds was the second highest in the nation at a rate of 16.7 percent.
By the end of the four-hour event on Sept. 29, four boxes totaling 100 pounds of medication was carted away for disposal. In total, the local police department has collected 495 pounds of medication in Raymond during the five take-back events held over the past two years.
A permanent medication drop box is expected to be installed at the police station soon.
