Barrington woman warned to keep eyes on road after Rochester car crash
ROCHESTER — A Barrington woman was warned to keep her eyes on the road and off her phone after she drove her car off Washington Street Sunday morning.
Police, firefighters and emergency personnel responded to Route 202 near the Barrington town line at 8:34 a.m. after an eastbound 1996 Volvo, driven by Lisa Oliva, 26, of Barrington, left the road, lost traction and struck a raised section of a ditch.
Firefighters were able to free Oliva from the vehicle and she was transported by paramedics to Frisbie Memorial Hospital.
No other vehicles or passengers were involved in the accident, which remains under investigation, according to police.
As Olivia was issued a warning for allegedly using prohibited text messages or a device while operating a motor vehicle, police remind area drivers not to use their phone or mobile device while driving, as it violates the law.
“More importantly, when operating a vehicle, the distraction created by text messaging has much more serious consequences when it results in a motor vehicle collision,” according to a release from police.
