NHIAA roundup: John Stark boys tip Lebanon in soccer
Kyle Clements scored the only goal in the 36th minute, and John Stark of Weare pulled off the upset at Lebanon with a 1-0 victory in Division II boys' soccer on Monday. Goalie Mike Prindiville made 10 saves in the shutout as John Stark improved to 5-7. The Raiders, who have allowed only five goals all season, fell to 9-2-2 on the year.
Bedford 4, Spaulding 0: Anders Holt scored the only goal of the first half before Bedford pulled away from host Spaulding of Rochester in a 4-0 Division I boys' soccer victory.
Erik Martel assisted Holt in the seventh minute, and the Bulldogs took a one-goal lead into halftime. Martel, Casey Schehl and Holt all scored goals in the second half as Bedford improved to 10-0. Taylor Wallace made five saves in the shutout. Spaulding dropped to 1-10.
Girls' soccer
Hollis/Brookline 2, Hanover 0: In Hollis, the Cavaliers ( 5-4-1) defeated Marauders (6-3-3) behind a first half goal from Lindsey Vazquez, assisted by Holly Eisenberg. The insurance goal in the 49th minute was furnished by Kashka Gammon, assisted by Hannah Modelski. Winning goalie Katherine Kroeger had eight saves while Hanover keeper Hannah Sobel turned back seven shots.
Manchester Central 4, Spaulding 0: At Manchester, Nicole Rust scored two goals, and Manchester Central won its fifth consecutive game with a dominant performance against Spaulding of Rochester. Emily Duchesne and Serena Shuter also scored for the Little Green (8-3-2), and goalies Gabby Desjardins and Lindsay St. Pierre combined for one save. Spaulding dipped to 0-12.
Souhegan 3, Lebanon 1: In Amherst, Souhegan improved to 10-1-1 while the Raiders fell to 7-6. Peyton Kent led the winners with two goals. She assisted on a goal by Sarah Lafluer. Trina Scheve had the lone Lebanon goal.
Derryfield 7, Hinsdale 0: At Manchester, Emma Polgrean opened the scoring in the third minute, and Polgrean capped the scoring in the 79th minute as host Derryfield of Manchester routed Hinsdale. Margaret Ives also notched two goals for the Cougars, who improved to 10-1-0. Jordan Arzilli picked up two assists in the win.
Field hockey
Merrimack 2, Exeter 2 (OT): At Merrimack, Jordan Teixeira scored twice in the second half for Exeter, and the playoff-bound Division I teams settled for a tie. Merrimack's Ashley Grassini had the only goal of the first half, and teammate Callie Dwyer scored midway through the second half. Exeter keeper Alexa Adams made 19 saves, while Amanda Dionne had six saves.
